Tragedy As Former Senator, Annie Okonkwo, dies

It was reported today by PUNCH NEWSPAPER that the former lawmaker representing Anambra center Senate, Annie Okonkwo die in April.

Okonkwo, who is a businessman and a politician, hails from Irebenebe village, ojoto in Idemili south Local Government Area of Anambra state.

According to PUNCH NEWSPAPER, The deceased who is representing Anambra center Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011 under the political party of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Annie also contested for governorship seat in Anambra state on several occasions during his active days.

According to PUNISH NEWSPAPER, A family member disclosed his death, he died in the United States, where he had been receiving treatment.

A close source said he have been suffering from cancer of the lungs but recovered. Last month, the sickness worsen and he was placed on a life support until he died.

According to PUNISH NEWSPAPER, A message coming from the family on announcing his death.

They said: “The entire Okonkwo family of Irebenebe village Ojoto, announces the passing on to glory of High Chief Annie Okonkwo. Indeed, Ojoto has lost her political pillar.”

Annie was succeeded at the Senate by the past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige.

According to PUNISH NEWSPAPER, he was last seen in public, when his son, Uche Okonkwo, who won a seat in the House of Representatives, visited him to present him his certificate.
