A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, has stated that the party is fully prepared to welcome the former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, should he decide to switch to the ruling party.
These statements come amidst ongoing speculations that Wike, who reportedly played a role in ensuring President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election held on February 25, is considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
There have been accusations that Wike and some of his loyalists within the opposition party have been lobbying for ministerial positions in Tinubu’s government. The former governor himself confirmed his willingness to serve if appointed by President Tinubu.
During a news briefing held in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Tony Okocha, a former Chief of Staff at the Rivers State Government House, expressed that Wike has the freedom to join any political party of his choice. He also emphasized that the Tinubu family’s leadership in Rivers State is completely supportive of Wike as their leader.
